Green Energy: the Federal Boondoggle that Keeps on Giving
Another highly touted green energy company bit the dust yesterday, when solar panel maker Solyndra declared bankruptcy and laid off 1,100 workers. Of course, it was heavily subsidized and had a $535 million loan guarantee, courtesy of Jimmy Carter's creation, the Department of Energy. The Department of Energy defended the guarantee by claiming the Chinese subsidize their solar boondoogles. Therefore we must do the same to "compete" with them.
The real reason these companies fail is because this technology is crap and is not cost efficient and will only work if we have $200 a barrel oil. Obama will undoubtedly tout more green jobs in his jobs campaign speech next week. These green jobs are a joke in an industry which can only survive by government subsidies. 3% of our energy needs come from green energy and it is no wonder. Green energy just isn't cost efficient.
These highly touted green energy projects do, however, pay off twice for the liberals. First, when the companies, backed by taxpayers' money, are created and second, when the laid off workers become eligible to collect up to 99 weeks of unemployment. Perhaps, the federal government should supply the laid-off workers with free Chevy Volts for the drive to the unemployment office. Have you ever seen a Chevy Volt on the road? We need bigger subsidies for them!
AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH is that Green Energy is the Federal Boondoggle that Keeps on Giving -- first bankruptcy, then unemployment for the laid-off workers.
Will the Regime demand more green boondoggles to "create" jobs next week?
