Maxine Waters: Looking for Shovel-Ready Hand-outs
Maxine Waters played her black constituency like a fiddle Thursday, when she called out the first black president for ignoring the plight of the blacks. She castigated Obama for not visiting any black neighborhoods during his Malaise & Blame bus tour. Ms. Waters is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, whose primary purpose in Congress is to make a lot of noise and create and expand as many welfare programs as possible. One has to wonder what the Congressional White Caucus thinks about singling out one race of voters.
Since 1964, when LBJ instituted the War on Poverty, the taxpayers have shoveled trillions of dollars into government programs for the poor. We still have millions of poor people, who would be the envy of 90% of the people in the rest of the world. We have been enabling poor people for decades with all sorts of government handouts. In the 40's and 50's the government provided a social safety for the truly needy - the disabled or the sick.
SInce 1964, the poverty programs have expanded the safety net to create a comfort net. All the government is doing is enabling the poor to remain poor. We have gone from taking care of the truly needy to supporting the truly lazy or uninspired. Now we have some schools providing free breakfast, lunch, and snacks for EVERY kid so the poor kids do not get stigmatized. Give me a break!
The Democrats have pandered to the "poor" for decades. Their mantra is if the poor have a problem, throw money at it. After a few years of no progress, spend more money or create a new social program to "fix" the problem. The Democrats have taken the black constituency for granted and for good reason. At least 90% of blacks vote for the Democrats in every election.
The Democrats play this race card perfectly -- "woe is me and you, don't worry, the government will take care of you too!" However, whenever you are taken for granted, you will be taken for an extended poor, economic ride.
Maxine Waters is singing the same old song -- government money will solve all the problems in the black community. Obama keeps talking about shovel-ready projects, then laughs about them not being ready. Maxine Waters and the Congressional Black Caucus want a huge shovel, loaded with billions of dollars we don't have, to throw at their constituency. Instead, the shovel should be loaded with the liberal bullcrap she and her cronies have been spouting for years.
