The Wizard of Blah: 1.5 Trillion Reasons to Reject the State of the Union Speech

The president put everyone to sleep last night. His State of the Union speech had no sense of urgency to the fiscal crisis this nation is facing. The projected federal 2011 deficit is now estimated to be $1.5 trillion. He proposes to freeze federal spending. That's like a drunk freezing his consumption of alcohol to the usual quart of whiskey a day.

The deficit problem is simple - our spending far exceeds our revenues (tax receipts). There are two solutions: cut spending or raise taxes or a combination of both. It is not that hard if you have the political resolve and courage to tackle this issue before it is too late. Instead, the president talked about the same old liberal nonsense about "investments" is such things as biomedical research, information technology, and especially clean energy technology. Hasn't he noticed the private sector has thousands of businesses already working in these three areas?

He also continued his war on wealth by pronouncing we can no longer afford to continue the tax cuts for the rich, This theme will be at the forefront of his 2012 campaign re-election campaign.

The president does not know how to lead. He is the Wizard of Blah. Look behind the curtain and you will find all the problems he is ignoring. He will let the Republicans do the dirty work of trying to cut the budget. And the liberals will go on the attack about the mean-spirited Republicans picking on the poor people.

What a mess...the beltway blowhards at their worst.
