Eliminate the $255.00 Social Security Death Benefit

President Barack Obama, the Bankrupter-in-Chief, is trying to get grandma and grandpa to ignore the billions of dollars in Medicare cuts in the health care proposals by bribing them with a lousy $250.00 one-time payment because the social security cost of living adjustments didn't kick in this year. The projected total cost: about $15 billion in borrowed money.

This is another stupid idea from liberals trying to buy off votes from the powerful senior lobby. Seniors act like they are the only group who are having a tough time. Get over it. If you can't afford your house anymore, sell it, downsize it, get a reverse mortgage, or (here is a novel idea) ask your KIDS for some help. Stop asking the taxpayer for money.

If you want to pay for this boondoggle, ELIMINATE the one time $255.00 lump sum death benefit given to widows and widowers. This idiotic subsidy was added as a "benefit" in 1954 when you could actually get a funeral for under $1,000. It was intended to "pay off" people who died too soon to collect social security. This benefit is now obsolete and a typical government entitlement that never gets elimininated. $255.00 may seem like an insignificant amount but when you multiply it by the hundreds of thousands who probably collect it each year, it is REAL MONEY.

About 50 million people collect social security. If only 10% of the seniors get this $255.00 death benefit each year the $250.00 one time Obama bribe could be paid for in about 10 years. Better yet, take a stand and refuse to pay the $250.00 AND eliminate the $255.00 death benefit. Just sneak this change into the 2,000+ page health care bill (which no one will read) and then listen to the seniors scream!
