Congratulations to the Navy Seals and the brave captain for getting out of this mess alive. 3 shots, 3 killed, not bad. It is sad that many of these "pirates" are young kids forced to become dinghy pirates. It appears the "M. O." for the pirates is for the "elders" in the villages to recruit young kids to do the dirty work and then return with the hostages to be held for ransom. The kids do all the dangerous work and the elders keep the "booty" ransom.

The problem now is what to do in the future. Of course, the civilized world expects us (as in U.S.) to take charge and spend all the money against these punks. We cannot do it alone and we should not. This Somali sea area to patrol is about 4 times the size of Texas so it is up to NATO or the individual ships to arm themselves. Forget the U.N. - there are too many pirate vetoes to get anything done.

I find it hard to believe that a few armed guards with the proper weapons on board these LARGE vessels can't ward off these punks in oversized rowboats.

Obama has declared that we need to put an end to piracy but that we cannot do it alone. It is time for the world to get off its collective asses and deal with this problem. A coordinated effort is needed or the problem will only get worse.

We need security  people like the characters in Death Wish (Charles Bronson) and Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood) on board these merchant vessels to keep these pirates at bay.

Ultimately, the pirate camps on shore will have to be destroyed, but it will probably only occur after something horrendous happens. The recent history of the world is that we only act after a problem escalates beyond what even a liberal can tolerate.
