Ben and Tim Grab for More Power: What Would Andrew Jackson Say?
Ben Bernanke and Tim Geithner: do these two men have too much power over the financial system? Is Ben Bernanke today's Nicholas Biddle, Andrew Jackson's central bank arch enemy? Bernanke and Geithner are pushing for greater control over just about ever aspect of our financial system.
Before we hand over this power to an already flawed regulatory system, remember the words of the great Andrew Jackson when he won his war over the charter with the U.S. Bank in 1836:
"The paper money system and it natural associations - monopoly and exclusive pvivileges - have already struck their roots too deep in the soil, and it will require all your efforts to check its further growth and to eradicate the evil."
180 years later, these words still have a ring to them!
