Obama on 60 Minutes: Smooth as Silk
I listened to the Obama interview with Steve Croft on the car radio and then, through the miracle of TIVO, again this morning. Let's face it, the American people have not seen someone as smooth as Mr. Obama since JFK occupied the Oval Office. Whether you like his liberal spending policies or his naive diplomatic view of how we should treat the Islamic threat, you have to give him credit. He is SMOOTH AS SILK.
I found it amusing when he laughed after he said :"the only thing less popular than putting money into banks is putting money into the auto industry."
His comment that if someone had told him a year ago Iraq would be the least of his problems should have been followed up by Croft with something like: " Isn't it ironic, Mr. President, that the surge in Iraq you were so critical of helped make your job easier today?"
His obsessions with our alleged torture and the poor, downtrodded inmates at Guantanamo has to stop. His definition of torture pales in comparison with what goes on in 99% of the world. How about Russia's treatment of anybody who dissents? Russia is becoming a KGB state again. Anybody want to compare our treatment of prisoners with any of the Islamic "torture chamber" countries? I'm sure Red China has 5 star accomodations like Guantanamo in its prisons. This administration has to stop obsessing about our treatment of these terrorists. Guantanamo is a damned country club, compared with the rest of these countries' prisons. He has nothing to apologize for - stop pandering to the far left over this issue.
And, of course, he had to take a not so subtle shot at the previous administration when he talked about all the tough decisions he has to make every day : "The fact that you are often confronted with bad choices that flow from less then optimal decisions made a year ago, two years ago, five years ago, when you weren't here."
Contrast Obama's quiet attack on Bush, with Mr. Bush's recent comments, when asked about Obama's performance:
"There are plenty of critics in the arena. He deserves my silence. I love my country a lot more than I love politics. I think it is essential that he be helped in office."
Barack Obama: 63 days as President, smooth as silk, great talker, co-anchor of the Tonight Show. George Bush, 8 years as President, still one of the classiest men around, a real gentleman.
