President Obama recently ordered a pay freeze for White House employees earning over $100K a year in his first full day in office. BIG DEAL. Meanwhile the rest of the federal bureacracy (too many to count--over 1.5 million) was getting a 3.9% cost of living increase in January.  While the rest of "average" Americans sweat out keeping their jobs and are thankful for having them, thousands of companies have been laying off people and/or freezing wages.

So why should the federal employees in Washington and throughout the land automatically get a pay increase each year, on top of their gold plated benefit packages (and no threat of layoffs)? And , I forgot the $825 billion stymulus package boondoggle which will add a few thousand more useless federal employees to the payroll.

Mr. Obama, most taxpayers are not impressed by this gesture. Until you spread the pain throughout the rest of the federal kingdom, it will ring hollow.

To sell the freeze to the federal workers, you could employ ex-Lousiniana Congressman, William "Freezer" Jefferson, the gentleman who was found by the FBI with $90 K in cold hard cash in his freezer. The commercial could go something like this:

"Dear Federal Employee: I am William "The Freezer" Jefferson and I am here to tell you that Mr. Obama is going to FREEZE your wages until this brutal recession is over. We need to cut costs in our bloated bureaucracy and the first step is to stop increasing wages on so many useless employees. And if you do not like it, you are free to leave the cozy confines of federal employment and go out into the real world where you will have to deal with the realities of capitalism, instead of the socialistic comfort  to which you are now accustomed 

Thank you and have a nice year."
