The Obama Inaugural Speech: Some Suggested Memorable Lines

All the liberals are waiting with baited breath over what Obama will say in his inaugural speech on Tuesday. The pundits at MSNBC are all wondering if they will get that "tingling" feeling during and after it.  Will there be a "JFK" moment?

Here are some of the most memorable quotations in U.S. history, not all from inaugural speeches but nonetheless famous. They are followed by our suggested Obama line.

Thomas Paine: "These are the times that try mens' souls."

Obama: "These are the times that tax our wallets."

Ronald Reagan: Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall."

Obama: Mr. Bin Laden, I will close down Guantanomo."

JFK: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country."

Obama: "Ask not what you can do for your country, but ask the government how it will take care of you."

FDR: "We have nothing to fear but fear itself."

Obama: We have nothing to fear except big governement gone wild."

Lincoln: "Four score and seven years ago ..."

Obama: "Four score and seven months ago, Hillary Clinton thought she was going to be President."

Paine: "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."

Obama: "Liberals who expect to feed at the public trough, must expect everyone else to pay for it."

Jefferson: " The government is best which governs least."

Obama: "The government is best which governs most."

Lincoln: "A house divided against itself cannot stand..."

Obama: " Taxpayers divided against themselves cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure when half the population pays no income taxes. 95% of the people should pay no taxes and the rich should pay for everybody else."

Ronald Reagan: "The best minds are not in government. If any were, business would hire them away."

Obama: The best minds are in my cabinet. All the blowhards are in the House and Senate."

Possible alternative endings to his speech (choose one)

A. "All citizens should reach to the sky and aspire higher and higher with the help of yours truly, Barack Obama, the messiah.":

B.  "In conclusion, my fellow Americans, what were you thinking about when you elected me?"
