Chris Dodd, The Connecticut Coxcomb

Now that the the federal government has flooded the market with another gazillion dollars to reduce mortgage rates, one has to wonder if Chris Dodd, the Senator for Life from Connecticut, aka the Connecticut Coxcomb, is calling his Banking Blowhard buddies for another VIP sweetheart mortgage financing deal. The rate he is currently paying on his Countrywide loans is now probably in line with the new lower rates. So why not ask for a better deal than you or I can get? After all, what good is power if you cannot abuse it!
Dodd, a Senator since 1981, has all the benefits a Senator can want -- fat salary, plenty of face time on TV, large staff to do his every bidding, incredible health benefits that the taxpayer can only dream about, and a fat pension when he finally leaves office.
Yet, in spite of all of these perks of power, he had the audacity to get a "VIP" loan from that sub-prime wonder-bank Countrywide Financial Corporation. He was part of the "Friends of Angelo (Mozilo)" VIP loan program, which included interest rate discounts and cuts in fees. Of course, Dodd refutes all these allegations but refuses to show his mortgage documents. The Justice Department is supposedly investigating the VIP program at Countrywide to see if it bought any influence on the Beltway.
Regardless of whether any influence was "bought", doesn't Mr. Dodd get ENOUGH perks as a U.S. Senator? This is a guy who ran for Congress during the Watergate era on a platform of reform and cleaning up Washington. Now he is just one of the Beltway Blowhards grabbing every thing he can get for himself while he chairs the Senate Banking Committee and conducts hearing after hearing about how this banking crisis unfolded.
Can anyone say "Dodd-gate"?
Oh yeah, in just two or three years he will again launch another pathetic run for President in his never ending quest for that elusive delegate.
The next time Dodd conducts a hearing on the banking crisis, perhap he should hold up a mirror and ask himself some tough questions.
There is a move underway to "Dump Dodd" in Connecticut. The movement's belief is that 27 years of failed liberal policies and special deals is enough. I will keep you posted on the progress of this movement in future blogs.
